Quality Enhancement is one of the key factors for competing at the national as well as international levels, Dean/CEO GKMC-MTI Swabi: In order to enhance the Quality of education in medical institutions, Khyber Medical University Peshawar has directed all the affiliated institutions to prepare and submit Self-Assessment Report (SAR) of their respective institutions/program(s). In this regards, a capacity-building workshop was organized by the Quality Enhancement Cell in the conference room of GKMC-MTI. The workshop was attended by the faculty members including professor and assistant professors nominated from basic and clinical sciences. Mr. Saeed Afsar Assistant Manager Quality Assurance was a focal person for the workshop. This was the first workshop from a series of such workshops to be conducted every week. In the inaugural session of the workshop, the Dean MTI-GKMC/BKMC Swabi, Prof Dr. Shams-Ur-Rahman, emphasized the importance of Quality Enhancement as one of the key factor for competing at the national as well as international levels. The Dean/CEO urged the participants to strive for attaining and maintaining the criteria and standards set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The Director QEC Dr. Mohammad Khalid thanked the Dean for providing all necessary support for the establishment and initiation of routine activities of Quality Enhancement Cell at MTI-GKMC/BKMC Swabi. Prof Dr. Ishtiaq HoD of Medical Education and Dr. Mohammad Khalid Director, Quality Enhancement Cell were the resource persons for the workshop. Director QEC made a presentation on Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement and explained quality assurance/self-assessment, its need, functions, and its importance. He shared that 8 criteria and 31 standards are required for writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) of an institution. In this workshop, the first criterion (Mission, objectives, and outcome of the program) of Self-Assessment Report (SAR) along with its standards was discussed in detail. Both hard and soft copies of training material were shared with the participants. To ensure practical involvement of all the participants, Director QEC assigned group tasks to the participants to develop mission, objectives and outcomes for MBBS program, ensuring its alignment with the mission of KMU as well as alignment between mission, objectives and outcomes of MTI-GKMC/BKMC Swabi. The participants were also trained on how to measure these objectives and outcomes, using various assessment tools. At the end of the workshop, the Director QEC thanked all the participants for their keen interest and active participation in the workshop. He also shared that next workshop of its series will tentatively be conducted on 14th September, 2022, and in each such workshops one or two criteria and its relevant standards will be covered.
